In this fast-paced world, do you think your health is holding you back? Do you feel less energetic throughout the day? Do you constantly feel tired even after a full night’s sleep? Are you suffering from chronic constipation or slow digestion? Does everything feel like an effort?

Well, your body is giving you signals that something is wrong. But you can correct it all if you understand how your body works.

Think of your body as a factory! It never shuts down, even when you are asleep. Your organs, which are the machinery, run on food and water, which constitute the fuel. Just as a factory can’t run without electricity, your body can’t run on its own. How then?

How Do You Get All This Energy?

Through a process called Metabolism.
Your body needs energy to function. Think of any bodily function, be it blood circulation, food digestion, sleeping, running, maintaining body temperature, etc, all of them require energy. Most people think metabolism is just the rate at which you burn calories, but it’s more complex than that. It’s the rate at which you convert your food to the energy that you need in order to support all the biochemical processes that are taking place in your body. Metabolism has two components: Catabolism and Anabolism. The former breaks down food into energy in the form of calories, while the latter absorbs that energy to build & repair tissues. Both processes are complementary yet opposite.

Metabolism Sustains Life

In essence, metabolism is linked with every function in the body. Let’s look at some of them:

  • Body weight and composition: Metabolic rate determines how many calories you burn at rest (BMR) and during activity. This directly influences your weight gain/loss journey.
  • Digestion: A slow gut indicates a slow metabolism. The digestive system prepares the food (nutrients) for absorption (by eliminating waste), and metabolic reactions convert it into energy (ATP).
  • Mood and sleep signs: Sleep and metabolism are closely linked. When you sleep too much or have insomnia, stress, or anxiety, it affects metabolic processes.
  • Body temperature: Metabolism generates body heat. Are your hands and feet always cold? It means you need to pay attention to your metabolism.
  • Mental health: Brain function is highly dependent on energy produced as a byproduct of metabolic activities. The brain continuously uses ATP for transmitting signals between neurons. Therefore, if you want a clear mind and sharp memory, you should take steps to improve your metabolism.

A Warning Sign to Improve Metabolic Health

NSO/NSS Health Survey 2025 found that lifestyle diseases are rising. These include cardiovascular & metabolic ailments, such as hypertension, diabetes, heart diseases, and thyroid-related disorders. They are becoming a nationwide challenge.

Let us look at some positive habits that contribute to a good metabolism.

It’s easy to blame our metabolism when we make bad choices ourselves. Or do a Google search on “which superfoods boost metabolism”. But improving your metabolic health is not a quick trick. It requires us to start making conscious decisions in our lives. It’s a myth that we don’t have control over our metabolism. You need to inculcate these habits to boost your overall health:

  • Stay physically active – Walking or yoga also works; it’s not always about getting an expensive gym membership!
  • Drink more water – Hydration aids in bettering many processes of our body.
  • Take good rest – Sleep at least 7 hours a night. The more you rest, the easier it is for you to regulate your metabolism.
  • Eat healthy – Make sure your diet includes fibre and protein-rich foods.
  • Avoid tobacco and alcohol – They will always be harmful to you.
  • Stress management – Practice deep breathing and limit your screen time.
  • Coffee – The caffeine is a stimulant that can boost metabolism. Qafé Green Coffee by Nutriplus enhances fat burning from your first cup. It also reduces carbohydrate absorption by 33% and prevents blood sugar spikes.
  • Ayurvedic health supplements – DigestPro Health by Nutriplus is made with 10 clinically supported herbs. It helps relieve digestive issues such as indigestion and bloating. The Ayurvedic herbal Blend also promotes regular and healthy bowel movements. It maintains a balanced gut for improved metabolism and detoxification.

Habits don’t form overnight. These are not quick fixes for your health, and you may not see an impact right away. It needs patience and consistency. Remember, small changes are the foundation of long-term wellness. Now that you understand metabolism – start today, stay consistent, and listen to what your body needs to thrive!
